Dublin has everything from tall Georgian sash windows to red-brick terraces and new apartments in the Docklands, so the right slat and material differ from room to room. You measure yourself with our online guide, and our free measuring insurance covers any mistake.

Homes and windows

Dublin's housing is famously varied. Around Merrion Square, Fitzwilliam Square and the streets of Dublin 2 and 4 stand Georgian terraces with tall sash windows, deep reveals and high ceilings. Victorian and Edwardian red-brick terraces fill Rathmines, Ranelagh, Drumcondra, Phibsborough and Stoneybatter, often with bay windows at the front. Further out, suburbs such as Clontarf, Terenure and Raheny have semi-detached houses from the 1930s to the 1970s, while estates in Lucan, Tallaght and Swords are mostly later. The Docklands and Grand Canal Dock add modern apartments with floor-to-ceiling glazing. Damp, mild weather means bathrooms and kitchens need moisture-proof materials.

Our advice

For a Georgian sash window, measure inside the reveal at three heights, take the smallest width and subtract 1 cm for an inside-recess fit. That keeps the shutter boxes and the sash cords free. Choose 50 or 65 mm slats so the stack at the top stays neat on a tall window. In a bay window in Rathmines, order one blind per pane rather than one wide one. In a Docklands apartment with big glass, 50 mm aluminium or faux wood handles sun and condensation well.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fit a venetian blind inside a Georgian sash window in Dublin?

Yes. Most Georgian reveals are deep enough for an inside-recess fit. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, take the smallest and subtract 1 cm. Check that the blind won't catch on the sash locks or shutters. If the reveal is shallow or uneven, fit the blind on the frame instead, about 4 cm wider on each side.

Which blind works in a damp Dublin bathroom?

Choose aluminium, PVC faux wood or wood-look aluminium. All three are moisture-proof and wipe clean, so they handle steam from the shower and Dublin's damp winters. Real wood and bamboo are not suitable for bathrooms. If you want the look of timber, faux wood in 35 mm suits a small bathroom window well.

How long does delivery to Dublin take?

We make each blind after you order, which takes 10–18 working days. Shipping to Ireland then takes around 6–9 working days and costs €25. Ordering samples first adds a few days, but it's worth it: colours look different in Irish daylight than on a screen.
