If you live in Waterford, you can order made-to-measure venetian blinds online from Kronos Blinds, made in our own factory with a 2-year guarantee. Shipping to Ireland costs €25. Waterford is Ireland's oldest city, on the River Suir, with a compact historic centre, old terraced streets and suburbs that grew around it. Measuring is done by you, using our clear online guide, and the free measuring insurance covers any error so you don't pay twice.

Homes and windows

Waterford's historic centre, the Viking Triangle and the streets around the Mall and the Quay, has Georgian and Victorian buildings, with flats above many of them. Close to the centre you'll find long rows of small terraced houses with narrow windows, in areas like Ballybricken and around John's Hill. Suburbs such as Ballinakill, Lisduggan, Kilbarry and Tramore Road grew from the 1960s onwards with semi-detached houses and estates. Newer apartments along the quays look over the Suir. Being close to the coast, Waterford has mild and damp weather, so condensation is common in winter.

Our advice

Small terraced houses near the centre of Waterford often have narrow windows with shallow reveals. Choose 25 mm slats there, which stay in proportion and leave more glass free when raised. If the reveal is under 5 cm deep, fit the blind on the frame instead. In a quayside apartment with views over the Suir, 50 mm slats let you control light and privacy. Pick aluminium, PVC or wood-look aluminium for the kitchen and bathroom.

Frequently asked questions

What blind fits a narrow window in a Waterford terraced house?

A 25 mm slat is the best fit for narrow windows. It looks in proportion and the raised stack takes up little glass. Measure the width inside the reveal at three heights, take the smallest and subtract 1 cm. If the reveal is too shallow, fit the blind on the frame.

Can I use a wooden blind in my kitchen in Waterford?

We don't recommend real wood in a kitchen, especially above the hob, because steam and heat make the slats warp over time. Choose wood-look aluminium or PVC faux wood instead. Both have the warm look of timber, are moisture-proof and can be wiped clean after cooking.

What happens if my blind for Waterford doesn't fit?

If it's down to a measuring mistake, our free measuring insurance covers it, and we remake the blind once at no cost if you report it in time. Always enter the size you want the blind to be, not the window size, and measure in millimetres to keep the risk small.
